Paris day 29- Versailles

Today it wasn't raining. But it was still an early morning, earlier then the morning we were supposed to go. We headed to the second metro station, not the one that is closest to the hotel. We got on and rode it to the very end. It was really boring. We were pretty tired so we all just sat quietly. We stopped and continued walking. Since this was going to be an all day trip, Darrin and Susie encouraged us to bring our lunches. When we got to the front gates of Versailles, Laura realized she left, Andrea's, Danielle's, and her lunch on the train. She even told herself, “you can not forget this bag.” They were not happy. But it quickly blew over and we were all busy taking pictures while Susie and Darrin went to get the tickets. Everything was gold! Talk about over spending on a HUNTING LODGE! That is what Versailles was originally built for. Crazy. Dani kept taking pictures of us. She would just say “Versailles” and then take a picture. It was another bonding moment. Susie a...

Paris day 28- Patterns and Sacre Cour

Today we were supposed to go to Versailles. We all got up expecting to leave at 9:00 for Versailles. But after breakfast Darrin and Susie announced that we would change our days and go tomorrow because of the rain. We would be spending a lot of time in the garden and if we were to go in the rain it would be miserable. To be honest I was glad it was canceled. I was exhausted and really wanted a more relaxing day. Instead we would spend the morning working on pattern design. Then at 1pm we were going to get together in the breakfast room and look at the designs and critique them. Most of us went off to our rooms to try and get started on our ideas. We had to come up with three patterns one for each country we had visited. My favorite pattern idea was my Ireland one. London was surprisingly hard to get started on. It was that I couldn't get it down as a drawing. I did eventually figure it out. It was a really calming way to spend the morning and I really enjoyed it. It was nice to tak...

Paris day 27- Best day in Paris so far!

Best day in Paris so far!      Elyse and I left at 930 for the Catacombs, and who should I see in line? My senior year French 2 Student teacher, Mr. Schelagel! I feel bad, but I don't know how to spell his name. I was shocked. Who expects to see someone from Boise, Idaho who was your teacher traveling abroad? He was on the phone and asked for me to hold on for a second. Elyse headed to the back of the line to hold our spot. I waited as he got off the phone. It was crazy. I couldn't get over the fact that I was seeing someone I knew in Europe! He introduced me to his wife and two other family members. He asked why I was in Europe and I told him I was studying and told him about Utah State and the Interior Design program. I also told him about how my french has declined after he asked me about it. But he totally understood. He understood that after a year with speaking no french and only having two years of schooling it would decline. We talked about what to do in...

Paris day 26- Eiffel Tower, second free day

Today I got up kind of early so I could meet Susie and Benae for the Catacombs. Phil, Darrin, Susie, Benae, Elyse, and I wanted to see the Catacombs so we walked to the metro station and wen to the Catacombs to find out it was closed on Mondays. We all laughed and were like well what to do today? Darrin went off on his own, and Susie and Benae headed for the Paris Opera house. Phil, Elyse, and I decided to go back to the hotel and maybe later we would go to the Zaha Hadid exhibit. I really needed to work on blogs so once I was back I went and got my laptop and worked down in the lobby. It was the only place I could get internet. It was so hot down there though. I was sweating so bad. I was behind though so I stuck it through and did two blogs. I was still behind but at least I got some of them done. I talked to Elyse and we decided we didn’t want to go to Zaha today. So I went up stairs and took a nap. It was much needed.       That evening Elyse and I wen...

Paris day 25- Free Day

Our first free day in Paris. I decided to sleep in for a while. I wanted to use my pass while I had it. A lot of people had already taken off by the time I was up and done getting ready for the day. I then walked down to Elyse's room to see if the girls had left yet. Two of them had so they could go to church. But two were still there; I asked them what they were planning on. I wanted to go out but I didn't want to go off on my own. I didn't trust Paris that much. Elyse and Laura wanted to go to the Arch de Triumph and so did I. So at about 12pm we headed out to go visit the sites. We walked down our street and found a little market under the metro stop. So of course we had to stop and see what they had. Laura was looking at shoes and a guy who turned out to be the vendor started saying she looked so pretty and started majorly flirting with her. He was older, but not bad looking. He pointed out where is shop is and then continued to flirt. He was trying to get Laura to say y...

Paris day 24- FontaineBleau and Vaux le Vicomte

Today was a late day. We were given the morning to ourselves we just had to be back and ready at 1pm ready to go. So for the morning I decided to try and get caught up on some blogs. I got up a little early and ate some breakfast. After that I finished getting ready for the day and grabbed my laptop to head down to the lobby and work on blogs. Ireland and my need for sleep put me behind on my blogs. So I sat in the hot lobby typing away. At one point a family came down the stairs and elevator. The kid decided to run down the stairs while the parents took the elevator. The kid won the race and I noticed he was wearing a Sharks Sweatshirt, for those of you who don't like hockey it is the San Jose hockey team. So when the parents came down they said hi and asked if they were from California? They said yes and how did I know and I pointed to the sweatshirt and told them I loved hockey. Then I told them my team was the Red Wings. They are from Detroit and the Sharks have a rivalry. We s...
